Hi, I’m Tomako, a vegetarian living in Japan!
For those who want to eat vegetarian and vegan food when eating out, I would like to introduce CoCo Ichibanya.
CoCo Ichibanya is a chain restaurant specialising in curry, with outlets all over Japan.
You can choose various combinations of curry types, amounts, spiciness and toppings, some of which are vegetarian and vegan!
Here’s what we actually had at the restaurant, with a food report.
What is CoCo Ichibanya?
It originated in Aichi Prefecture, which is famous for its coffee shops.
They originally served curry in coffee shops, which led to them becoming curry specialty restaurants.
There are shops all over Japan and they also offer delivery services such as drive-through and Uber Eats, making it easy to eat there!
It is called “CoCo Ichi”, short for CoCo Ichibanya.
CoCo Ichi was one of the first restaurants in the chain to develop a vegetarian and vegan menu.
What is CoCo Ichi Veggie Curry?
CoCo Ichibanya has a ‘Coco Ichi-Veggie Curry’ which does not contain ingredients of animal origin.
*Although dairy products are not included in the ingredients,
Strict vegans should be aware that dairy products may be shared on the factory production line.
Coco Ichi Veggie Curry!
Price: 607 yen (tax included)
This time we topped the Coco Ichi-veggie curry (300g rice) with half eggplant and half vegetables.
The Coco Ichi-Veggie Curry on its own has no garnish, so topping it with your choice is recommended!
The curry is light, with the richness of the vegetables – this is curry rice!
This time I set the spiciness to normal. It is about the medium spiciness of commercial roux.
Compared to other curries with meat from CoCoichi, it is less oily and has fewer calories, so it is recommended for those who are concerned about their health.
It was also very filling, but if you want more, you can increase the amount of rice (you can specify in 50g or 100g increments) and toppings, or conversely, if you eat less, you can reduce the amount of rice.
Other pleasant aspects of CoCo Ichibanya include the fact that no animal ingredients are used, even in the original salad dressing, and the fact that the food is served quickly after ordering! (It took about five minutes!)
This time I also ordered the Yasai salad!
The vegetables are fresh and are also recommended!
Summary
This time we introduced CoCo Ichibanya’s CoCo Ichi Veggie Curry.
At CoCo Ichibanya, you can change the spiciness and the amount of rice, plus the variety of toppings is very pleasing.
Vegan toppings include aubergine, spinach, tomatoes and other vegetable toppings, potatoes and mushrooms, and for vegetarians, cheese and eggs.
Try different toppings and make your own original curry.
